[or-roots] Extraneous material

Rooters,

The recent messages regarding the extraneous materials have been noted. However there is not a lot I can do as the software package we use for the list is set with certain default features and I do not have the ability to change these. Conversations with my Information systems folks have resulted in them basically saying there is not much they can do to the system either. The system does allow html, however if the message exceeds 40 KB it will not be posted but rather goes to an administrative area where I have to manually deal with it.. Hence the message that Dan sent earlier this morning was held back, because it was too large. I edited it a bit and passed it on through. There are some occasions when this happens but not too often. I can only suggested that list members make sure that they are editing out extraneous material when the are responding to messages, as is especially cumbersome to people who receive the list in the digest mode. Digest subscribers can switch their subscription to "mime" rather than plain text mode and that will get rid of some of the excess material (primarily in the header)but not all. The other options are dependent on the e-mail software that you may be using individually.

I appreciate the feedback from the list and will continue to work to make the list useful to all the subscribers.

Regards,

Layne Sawyer
