I too have Family Tree Maker Version 11.  I updated from Version 7 with no 
problem so you should have no trouble with updating from Version 8.  I too like 
the ability to open two files at once.  I also like the fact that I can export 
"books" to an Adobe Acrobat file so that I can put it on a CD for family.
