Hi David

My daughter lives in SE Salem and only got about 8" of snow - power was out
but not for 16 hrs.

If you are now getting that storm you will likely get the one coming in now
(SW Oregon). Snow at the 2000 ft. level so we may not get any on the valley
floor (Medford) but may. The I-5 over the Siskiyou Summit from Ashland to Redding
CA was closed for 20 hrs., just when holiday traffice heading home was the
heaviest. Many motorist stranded. Seven to 8 foot drifts.

I remember what it was like in the Rogue Valley in 1964 when we had similiar
weather conditions - that was not fun.

Snow even in downtown Salem?? I hope my uncle and aunt who are in
80s are ok. They live in the hills just east of Salem Municipal
Golf Course.

16 hours without power is cute compared to the problems Salt Lake
City is having - many homes still without power for 5 days now and
now the storm that just walloped Oregon is due to arrive tonight
here to dump as much as 24 inches more of snow.

Just hope the current cycle doesn't lead to sudden thaw like it was
in 1964.

David Samuelsen, native Oregonian.
