I thought when someone mentioned the big snow in the late 60's was 69 not 68
that they were probably right, lo and behold tuesday Register Guard had a
bunch of snow statistics.
Ironically the first three highest snowfall days were 25th- 14", 26th- 13.9"
and 27th of Januray 1969 10". the only day of the winter of 1949-50 that
makes the top ten is no. 5 January 29, 1950 with 7.2 inches. What puzzles me
is the winter of 49-50 comes in second in snowiest month, Jan '50 36.1 as
opposed to Jan 69 47.1 inches yet the 49-50 was much more severe in terms of
lasting power, in '69 we were back to normal weather in a few weeks yet I
remember my family talking about the 49-50 storm lingered and as I have
mentioned before we had snow on the ranch in May. It must have been overall
a much colder winter.
