Look at the Bureau of Land management records. I found a George A.
Langworthy has a land patent on record in Oregon. It was filed at the
Roseburg Land Office in Douglas Co. and is dated 01 November, 1861, Document
# 87536. There is a group of five Garwoods that show up but only one has a
land patent on record for Douglas Co. He is William Garwood and he show a
land patent filed in Roseburg land office 19 April 1867, Document # 350.
These can be viewed by going to www.glorecords.blm.gov/Patent
<http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/Patent> Search. This may help you pick a
place to start looking. Of course the land could be anywhere in the
vicinity. If you check with the Oregon State Archives they may have records
of people with these family names. There is also a record there for a George
A. Langworthy who filed a land claim in Tuality Co. in 1848. This was found
on the web site www.arcweb.sos.state.or.us
<http://www.arcweb.sos.state.or.us> and then by selecting genealogy and then
by selecting Oregon Historical Records Index. On the form here just put in
the last name to get a return for all records for the surname.
Happy hunting!
