Diane, in all likelihood your William Royal M. D. was a member of the Royal
family which came to Douglas County in 1852. The family has written a book
titled The Royal Way West about the family and it is quite detailed. The
family patriarch, the Rev. Royal was the director of the famous Umpqua
Academy at Wilbur for years. Some of the sons was also involved in the
operation of the Ashland Academy. They were Methodists. It is quite likely
that a Royal would seek burial in the Wilbur Cemetery.
I only know about this data because the Royal family and my great great
grandfather and my great grandmother were on the same wagon train to Oregon,
coming via the Applegate trail in 1853. Bob Casebeer, Douglas County
