        Dear Connie:

Nora Lenore Reynolds Peterson Strake, was the
surviving daughter of my great uncle Albert Reynolds, and his wife Charity Alice McKenney/
McKinney. She was born in Hennpin Co. Mn,
and came to Alsea with her parents in 1883.
Her father was a fiddle player and also played
at the dances in the area. The family survived,
as did many others, when they discovered black
sand on the beach - Gold. Nora was also one
of the only women to sail the Alsea Bay alone.

        Thanks for the information.

"Nice (Lincoln County) post office, formerly Lutgens, was established April 24, 1917. The office was discontinued November 15, 1919. It was named for Captain Henry “Harry” Nice (1837-1921), a prominent Alsea Bay resident during the last half of the 19th Century. Nora L. Strake was the first postmaster."
