When the death certificate is completed, they ask for parents names and birthplaces. Sometimes, though, the informant (usually a family member) does not know the names of the parents and so it is marked unknown. There is probably a better than average chance that it would be included on the death certificate.

  Dan,
Thanks for posting the link to the Oregon Death Index.
So, if we find someone of interest on this list with a certificate number, does anyone know how to get a copy of the certificate? Will the certificate have any information beyond name and death date? In particular, I'm looking for parent names of my GG-grandmother. Might her death certificate have such information?
  Marilyn S.
