I was a baby in the Depression, and Junior High age at the beginning of World
War II.

I can remember my father working for a dollar a day. Then he worked at the
Kaiser Shipyard in Vancouver, WA, during the war. My sister and I saw Mrs.
Roosevelt christen a ship, and we were close enough to see her.

One set of my grandparents (Helgerson) came to Oregon from Wisconsin around
1900. The other set (Thomas) came to Oregon from <Missouri around 1900. The
Helgersons started at Hillsboro, and ended up at Dallas, and the Thomas family
started at Beaverton and ended up at Dallas. Then my mother was born at
Dallas, and so was I, and so was my oldest child.

It has been interesting to me to read all your stories, similar to mine but
different.
