Hi Verdena,
Thanks for your response on the Elwood School. I remember a Mrs. Merry that lived in Colton, one of my teachers, and a Mr. Babcock when I was in the fourth grade. We were bused to Colton in the fifth (1950) grade and the next year we were bused to Estacada. We had relatives in Estacada, Arthur & Alberta York.
We rode our horses to Mollala and rode in the parade so we could get in the rodeo free. I was very fond of a girl named Prissila but I don't remember her last name. My best friend then was Stanley Cox.
Thanks for the memories,
Jim in Walla Walla

  Hi Jim,
That would be the Elwood Cemetery. That sounds like about the time frame that my mother taught school there. Her name was Lillie Moffitt. I used to go to school there with her sometimes. I was born in December 1942. I do have some pictures but am not sure if there is a group picture. Do you remember the Peterson girls or the Stahlneckers?

The Elwood Community has a reunion every year but I only found out about it fairly recently and we were unable to attend this year. I think it was in August. There is still a functioning church in the same building that has been there for years.

Colton had an all-school reunion in July that we did attend.

Bonney Cemetery is closer to Colton. It is up on a hill and if I remember right you go up Bauer Road to get there. I have been to several graveside services there but it has been awhile.

  Regards,
  Verdena

I attended the first four grades of school at the Elwood School between Colton & Estacada starting in 1945. There was a cemetery and a church across the road from this one room school. Would this be the same cemetery?
