Tough nut to crack, I find no Susan Royal in Oregon in 1880 census, nor
Belle Mead, in point of fact neither a Mead nor a Royal in Lake county. LDS
index produces 44 variations on Belle Meade, closest match being Isebella V.
MEAD age 42 in Michigan. I found one Susan Royal age 17 a servant in New
York, but would think Belle being heir-in-law seems to me to imply Royal is
her married name. LDS index gives 37 variations on Susan Royal, most of
which don't match, one Susan ROLES is also found in Michigan? Or Susan N.
ROYLE who is in Pennsylvania.

The surname Mead appears as head of household 35 times in the 1900 Oregon
census, but I don't propose to dig through those for you as I need to take
care of meself and get to bed, if you had any more info to go on, Belles
hubby say, I might be able to help you, but these folks are sure obscure.

Well, I would say this is proof it is her married name;

Mead turns up 360 hits on Oregon archives index, so will pass on searching
through them too, Royal was only 257 hits and that was where these
assessment notations came from. 'Bout out on my feet.

I found where Susan N. Royal purchased a home in Paisley, Oregon for $900
and also 40 acres in the same area from the State of Oregon for $50.00.

This was in 1883 and 1887.  In 1895 her property was sold by her
"Heir-In-Law, Belle V. Mead of Susan Royal, Deceased.

Has anyone ever heard of Susan N. Royal?

She is not listed in the records of our local cemetery.  Women did not vote
then, so no voting records.  No census for 1890.

I was looking at something else and found this record...the property was
purchased by an ancestor.
