Gene,
  I lived about 8 miles to the north of Granite bay off Horseshoe Bar  Rd. We 
used to go swimming in the river at Horseshoe Bar on the American river  
until they put the dam in then we bought a small boat an learned to water ski.  
The area is in many records and book of the Gold rush as it was right in the  
middle of the Mother load.  My family came down from oregon and gold mined  just 
to the north of us and to south at what is now ElDorado, the creek is still  
named Martheny Cr. there after my 3rd gt. grandfather Daniel Matheny.
My sister live about 3 miles from there on the old Hyw. 50
