Our John Hamlin was born ca. 1820 in NY according to the census, was married in Peoria, Illinois in 1848.  Came to Oregon probably in the 1860s, his daughter was married in Coos County in 1866 and he gave his permission on the marriage license and gave his address as Myrtle Creek, Douglas County.  1870 Census Myrtle Creek Precinct, Douglas County, Oregon lists his age at last birthday as 50 when the census was enumerated on 29 June 1870.  It lists place of birth as New York.  His occupation is listed as "miller".  

He was divorced in Douglas County in 1868 from his first wife, she had been in Coos County several years.

He remarried in 1871 to Mary Allen, sister of Albon Powell, so assume her maiden name was probably Powell.

He died in 1878 in Polk County, Oregon, leaving his widow, Mary, and 4 minor children.

That's all I know about him, I have no information on his ancestors.  Wish that I did have more information.
