Hello, I didn't know that one could even get info from Hawthorne. I have seen a lot of ads for this place in the old Oregonian newspapers. My great great aunt died there in 1894. She was only 30 but I don't know why she was committed. In the ads it says it is a hospital for the insane. I will be interested in the responses you get. Thanks for asking the question. Sandi

  I just received a Hawthorne Asylum record from the Oregon State Archives.  Todd (nice and helpful) said the records are very sparce.  I am wondering if anyone has information on the Hawthorn Asylum, where it was and why people went there.
