Have you heard the story about Noti,Oregon. A Siuslaw Indian and A white settler were heading from mapleton to Eugene. The Indiahad a horse and offered to share the horse. They started out with the Indian riding and the white settler running. At the agreed on tie spots the rider would tie up the horse and then startwalking. All went well until the spot where Noti was later settled. the white settler decided he had more right to ride than the siuslaw. When the whiteman reached Eugene he stopped at the local bar to drink. The Indian continued walking from Noti to Eugene. When he arrived at the bar He came in and informed the crowd, "Him no tie." The white man was arrested. And noone was allowed to forget his mistake.

He also had something going on here in Portland but I was unable to go, it is really interesting home some of the places got their names, Northwest history is something I am really into as a lot of it involves family on my Father's side.
Sure be glad when I can retire in September then I can go do what I want.

If anyone is interesting in seeing how we arrive at the names...meet the writer of Oregon Geographic Names...(one fantastic Lewis McArthur). Join us for our summer meeting in Klamath Falls on June 26th. We will be meeting at 1:30 p.m. in the Mt Scott Room at the Shilo Inn near the OIT campus just off Highway 97 in the north part of Klamath Falls. Diane
