Hi Les,

The sheet and page numbering are not an eccentricity of Heritage Quest. And
it does not change the National Archives group and roll numbering.

The census records have a sheet number. This was filled in by the
enumerator and each enumeration district could start with sheet 1. Then
page numbers were stamped (after the census records were sent to the
national level, I think) so there would not be duplicate sheet numbers. The
pages or sheets also have two sides - A and B. That is why the name you are
looking for is sometimes on the next page when you click on a search result.
It is best to reference the page number and then A or B so you can easily
find the census record again.

In the Powell case, the family is listed on sheet 93 or page 324. I do not
know if they were on the A or the B side.

I hope this helps. I love working with census records!

Have a great day,
Cheryl
