[or-roots] Re: Which Family tree Maker is best??

First, thanks for all the information and entertainment this list brings. I've been "lurking" for a year or so, and especially enjoy the little tips, links and websites. 
 
I'm going to start getting serious about this hobby, and have been looking at the Family Tree software on Ebay. There are so many versions, some with accompanying CDs, and I would really appreciate recommendations. Are the newer versions different or truly superior, or should I go for an older version that has more of the CD reference guides (I'm leaning that direction currently, as I am trying to avoid the subscriptions seemingly required for access to a lot of the databases). Help!
