MessageFor those of you who have census, etc. access trhough your library services--terrific! I live outside the limits of Salem and therefore would have to pay $60 per year for 1 person. There isn't a county service for Marion.
So I subscribe to an online service. But one must give credit where credit is due. Volunteers who have kindly looked up information that I do not have access to have been the greatest service. I have found that (This is my finding remember) those with Ancestry.com seem to respond to the message boards with help more then the genelaogy.com message boards. I don't know why. The best response from a volunteer has to be the man from Germany that saw my Ancestry.com message board query about my father's family of BATZNER. Not only did he have the information from the printed church records, but he sent me page after page after page free of charge...about 100 total. Now my BATZNER family goes back 5 more generations, 10 within certain lines.
I'll say it before and I'll say it again---I'd be up my family tree without a ladder if it wasn't for the kind volunteers I have encountered...and that goes for the kind folks in this group who have responded to my "help me" pleas. This is one of the reasons for my earlier post this week about lookups. I try to give back what I am given.
