I recently made connections with a cousin who held a family history written by my gggAunt, Josephine Moore Boynton Porter in about 1929. The information she gave broke through my "brick wall" family in a big way. I am now trying to document the things she wrote about --so far her memories seem to be fairly accurate. I am writing this list to see if anyone else is researching this family--or may have information for me.

The family came west in two groups--they were originally from TN/NC but moved first to MO and then on to OR.

The following people traveled in 1849 from MO to OR:

Amy (Mary) Vanderpool Moore (b. ~ 1792--probably NC) widow
Mollie Vanderpool Linville (her sister)
John Linville (Mollie's husband)
John Moore (Amy's son)

According to Josephine's history..."they crossed the plains to Oregon...and they settled at what is now Albany Oregon. Later they moved to Douglas County, Oregon."

The following people traveled in 1864 from MO to NE and in 1865 to OR on the David Parker wagon train. This group was comprised of mostly Southern sympathizers from northern MO:
Tilford Moore (son of Amy Vanderpool Moore) (b. 1824-TN)
Amelia Parker Moore (wife of Tilford, daughter of David Parker)
Isaac Moore (son of Tilford and first wife)
Josephine Moore (d/of Tilford and author of family history)
Catherine Moore Fields (daugher of Amy Vanderpool Moore; Tilford's sister; widow of unknown Fields)
Catherine's three children--names unknown

The Parker's settled around Independence, OR...I have lots of information on them.
Catherine Moore Fields moved in with her brother John Moore and their Mother --according to Josephine's family history..."after we reached Oregon she went to live with her mother and brother, John. Several years later she married a man named Drewery and they had one child who died years ago. Catherine died at Walla Walla Wash."

The Tilford Moores (according to Josephine)...
"We first located in Oregon at Albany and remained there for one year then moved to Douglas Co. where I attended my first school.
I went thru heavy timber for a mile or more, but as I had a great big good dog I was not much afraid. I got my dog when he was a little puppy, he was white with black spots on him-a New Foundland-and very large....We had taken up a piece of land in Douglas Co. near where John and Mollie Linville lived. (you will remember John Linville who died at our house in Huntington) We stayed there for a year or two and moved to Polk Co. and rented a farm near where Ma's parents lived (Ma being the stepmother, Amelia Parker). We stayed there until 1873 when we left Wilmatte (sic) Valley and went to Wasco Co."

There is more---but I am primarily trying to place any of the above in the locations listed. So far I have one entry in the Benton Co 1850 census for Mary Moore and John Moore which shows her age as 38--I believe this was a mis-transcription and should have been 58. But I found no record of the Linvilles or a marriage between Catherine Moore Fields and a man named Drewery (I also looked for Drury). Nor can I find a record of her in Walla Walla.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Jackie
