Dell's was still the same in the 70s, can't remember just now when it closed because of the buyout by Lithia Motors taking up so much space downtown.

When we moved from Almond and the great redwood tree in the yard, they were making a freeway,we moved to Crystal white lockers or something then to Gilmans Dairy,I remember living in the old CCC building on Roxy Anne and there is a small section in the picture of a building. We used to take rafts we made down bear creak made from piano boxes and inner tubes we would launch near the Pigly Wiggly store by the bridge. And pick those large black berries along the creek mom would make pies or we would sell them to the stores.
In 1955 abouts, Dells was still the same, or close.

Ah memories, Dell's hamburger stand (as it was first called) was on 6th just west of Riverside by the late 30's at least. My father, Emerson Merrick, used to eat there on occasion though normally without my mother and me. At that time Dell's had 4 stools inside and the counter at the sidewalk. Dad ran the auto court on the east side of Riverside so it was easy access. Other places to eat what we now call fast food were the Roxy Ann Fountain on Central between Main and 6th, and the soda fountain in the pharmacy on the corner of Main and Riverside. Many, many changes to the town now but I left in 1948 for college so to me it is frozen in time. When I was in junior high there was a spudnut shop between Riverside and the bridge on Main too.
I am always willing to reminisce
    Phyl Merrick Purdum .
