My dad always talked about being raised on a dairy farm.  [He was born in
Bay City in 1911.]  After visiting where the farm was I realized that they
kept a few cows and Grandpa worked out to support the family.

Grandma was afraid of cows so my dad started milking morning and evening at
the age of eight.  They never kept a calf for beef because they could not
afford to give up the income from a milk cow.

The Tillamook Dairy picked up the milk.
