I Think someone needs to read their history better Chief Joseph did not start the war, it was two young men from another band that started the war, the Nez Perce in the escape tried to control the younger braves and not kill innocent people unless they were attacked first, also Chief Joseph was not the war chief and actually took very little part in the fighting unless he had to.

If Mr. Ford was actually one of those who pursued Chief Joseph, it is certainly one of the less than stellar moments/decisions made by that generation
Before you go off half cocked you had better read the whole story and learn about how many whites were killed by Chief Joseph and his people before they ran to Canada. The white people didn't just go out and hunt down Indians for sport like the movies tell us.
If you would like to read what Aunt Charlotte wrote about this I can send you her book but I doubt that it would help because you obviously have your mind made up that the whites were the bad people and the poor Indians were just peaceful loving people who wouldn't bother a sole.
Sorry but I can't stand this rewrite of history I have Indian blood in me and I have relatives who were captured by the Indians and never seen again. There are bad people on all sides of history.
