WoW!  Wonderful web site. Not only do I have pioneer families in Oregon, but
also in the Grande Ronde Valley, Joseph, Lostine, Wallowa, Imnaha,  & etc..
and Washington too.

I was looking in the Milton Freewater section of the web site & remembering
my g-grandmother is buried in Milton Freewater in one of the old cemeteries
just out side town. Not sure which one probably the Milton Freewater Pioneer
Cem. Her name Sarah Alice (Plank) Lydall/Lydell, died in 1891 just after
giving birth to my grandmother Alice Mildred Lydall. Some day I need to go
there & find her headstone & take a picture. I was there as a small child
with my grandma Alice, but forgot where the Cem. & grave was exactly. It was
on a knoll on private land I believe. Also the grandmother to my grandmother
Alice is buried some where there too I think, Mary (Housouer) Plank died
1922. Mary has a wooden marker with her name on it.

My Aunt Bonnie Lou was born in Milton Freewater... Thanksgiving Day in 1928

She lives in Walla Walla, WA. to this day.

The Grande Ronde Valley and Blue Mountains: Impressions and Experience of
Travelers and Emigrants, The Oregon Trail, 1812-1880," a report by Stephen
Dow Beckham for the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, La Grande, Oregon. 
February 16, 1991.  Beckham found his resources from historical societies,
libraries and archives from Oregon, California, Washington, Indiana and
Connecticut.   There are hundreds of entries in the report. I only posted a
few of them on the Umatilla County History web site that did years ago.

There is a Bibliography in the book.  I don't know if the USFS had more
copies printed or not. I managed to get their last copy but I no longer have
it. I gave it to a friend so I am not able to do any look ups. You might
check to see if there are copies available through Inter-Library Loan.

I wished I knew, because my (ggg-grandfather) Hanson Stevens family left
Keokuck, Iowa & arrived Howell Prairie/Silverton, Marion Co., Oregon abt.
Oct. 9, 1852.
Same goes for my McCubbins Clan arrived Howell Prairie/Silverton, Marion Co.
 Oregon abt. Oct. 9, 1852 from Franklin Co., Missouri.
 
In fact my (ggg-grandfather) James McCubbins's son--Samuel McCubbins married
a daughter of Hanson Stevens--Sarah Ellen Stevens, both pioneer families of
1852. 
 
Please let me know if you find or
anyone else knows of a "travel diary"

James and Eliza Jane Hamlin left Iowa in April and arrived in Oregon in
October of 1852.  Does anyone know of a "travel diary" kept by a fellow
traveler on this trek to the "promised land"?
