Some of the list have heard this one before, but you get to hear it again;
When my Mother's next older sister passed away her family contacted the
family of the next to the oldest sister to tell her they had a suitcase full
of old photos of hers.
One of the daughters picked up the suitcase and opened it, it was full of
photos from the Roseburg area (my interpretation based on vegetation and
landforms) from late 19th to early 20th century (based on clothing and
people being mostly on horseback, but including photos of paved streets and
steel truss bridges) one baby photo had a first name, no other labels except
the names of a couple of studios. Obviously most of the photos were from one
family (a common thread were two individuals we called "big ears" and
"bigger ears" who were in a lot of the photos) but none of the remaining
members of our family who were around then recognized anyone. A further
irony was that a large portion of them were taken at a studio that my
maternal grandparents wedding photos and a number of other family photos
were taken at. I believed based on the position of some easily disturbed
decorations in the scenes that our family photos and the mystery photos were
taken in a fairly narrow time frame, but who knows, maybe they never touched
the decor?
Long story short, we were at a loss, but somehow my cousin got word that
these were from the family that one of my great uncles married into in the
Roseburg area and she gave them to a decendant of theirs in Portland. She
never got a thank you either.
