It is possible I have gotten incorrection information but I had that Jesse Day filed a plot plan for Dayton WA in 1871 with the Columbia County Audtior. I had kind of assumed perhaps that the city was named after Jesse Day. I haven't looked into Joel Palmer in Dayton WA but I have associated him with Dayton Oregon. If I remember correctly there is a restaurant in Dayton Oregon in the "Palmer House".

(Jesse Day's second wife was a grand-daughter of Cornelius Gilliam, my ancestor and thus my interest)

I know there is a town of Dayton, Oregon & did you know that Joel Palmer founded both towns of Dayton in both Washington & Oregon?
But my family is from Dayton, Columbia Co., Washington. I have now really confused the issue.. I'm sure <G>
