Thanks for the clarification.  I guess "founded" is a vague word at times <Grin>.  It is interesting that Mr. Palmer would be involved in both towns with the same name.

        Yes, you are right Denise. Jesse Day did plan the plot plan for Dayton, Washington & owned the whole town & sold off sections of land in the city. And yes, the city  Dayton, WA. is named after Jesse Day. 

        But, Joel Palmer founded both Dayton's in Washington & Oregon. I believe there is a sign some where coming into Dayton, Oregon that Joel Palmer is the founder of it too.

        Also, my G-grandparents Flanagan & McCubbins bought there land on South Willow St. in Dayton, Washington from Jesse day. There house was directly across the street from The Historic Dayton Depot before it was moved to Commercial St. I have a picture of this that shows the Flanagan house with an outhouse out back,  that was given to me from my mother's cousin a Flanagan from a newspaper clipping & he stills owns the house to this day.

        It is possible I have gotten incorrection information but I had that Jesse Day filed a plot plan for Dayton WA in 1871 with the Columbia County Audtior.  I had kind of assumed perhaps that the city was named after Jesse Day.  I haven't looked into Joel Palmer in Dayton WA but I have associated him with Dayton Oregon.  If I remember correctly there is a restaurant in Dayton Oregon in the "Palmer House".

              I know there is a town of Dayton, Oregon & did you know that Joel Palmer founded both towns of Dayton in both Washington & Oregon?
