[or-roots] Does anyone have access to an indexed 1900 OR census.

I have to agree! I looked high and low in the HQ census and came up empty.

A question to ask, however, is whether or not Lottie and the children were registered on the Tribal Roles?

And, perhaps they were all living with Lottie's family in 1900 -- we don't seem to know Lottie's father's
name? I looked up the Halls in Mendocino County and came up empty there as well, but not the other tribal
locations.

Erick;

Heritage quest is down tonight so can't help you with the 1900 Census, I might be able to hunt him down by
brute force in the 1900 Census when we get DSL (if ever!!!) but thought I would Google Lottie and see what
I found;

from; http://www.gerlecreek.com/documents/dumnayokuts.htm

[Oliver] Perry and Ellen <http://www.cagenweb.com/madera/Indians1928.htm> Murphy lived on Table Mountain
<http://www.gerlecreek.com/images/ellenmurphyhouse.jpg> Rancheria (see section 1 of
<http://www.gerlecreek.com/images/township11s21emd.jpg> the map) raising hogs to make a living, in
addition to [Oliver] Perry also mining with his brother, Jasper Murphy, born about 1833/34 in Arkansas.
Jasper Murphy died in February 1893 at the age of 60 plus and was considered "one of the old landmarks of
the valley." Jasper Newton Murphy married an Indian girl, Pol-chin, who was 14 when they married. They
also raised cattle on and about Table Mountain. [Oliver] Perry Murphy died on March 27, 1897 at the age
of 64. Ellen <http://www.gerlecreek.com/images/emurphydeathnotice1.jpg> Murphy(Yet-choo-nook) died at
age 95 on <http://www.gerlecreek.com/images/emurphydeathnotice2.jpg> April 27, 1936 in Madera. During the
last 12 years, she lived with her daughter Nancy Jane Murphy Kinsman Webb in her home in Madera. Thomas
<http://www.gerlecreek.com/images/thomasjeffersonmurphy.jpg> Murphy, lived his entire life on
<http://www.gerlecreek.com/images/ellenmurphyhouse.jpg> this property on Table Mountain
<http://www.gerlecreek.com/images/township11s21emd.jpg> Rancheria, eventually receiving the ranch as a
Indian Patent from the US Government in 1951. Thomas Murphy
<http://www.gerlecreek.com/images/tmurphydeathnotice.jpg> died in July, 1959. His sister, Caroline
(Carrie) Murphy Kennedy, married to Thomas <http://www.cagenweb.com/madera/ONeal.html> F. Kennedy, acting
as his estate administrator, took control of the 145 acre ranch
<http://www.gerlecreek.com/images/township11s21emd.jpg> on Table Mountain Rancheria (see section 1 of the
map) and sold it in July 1960. Caroline (Carrie Murphy) and Tom Kennedy (Kennedy Ranch) had 3 children,
Florence Kennedy Holt, b. April 10, 1922, Thomas Kennedy, b. Dec. 19, 1920 and June Kennedy Trewartha, b.
June 18, 1924. Pat's grandfather was Thurman Higgins Murphy Sr, who after returning from serving in the
US Army in WWI, married a Pomo woman, Esther Petersen (born July 8, 190l, died 1928) from Mendocino
County, Ca.(Father-Olaf Petersen, from Denmark (died at home in Fresno) married Lottie Hall a Pomo woman
from Mendocino. Lottie died in 1906 in the San Francisco earthquake. They had two children, Olaf (died
1967) one son, Marile Petersen, living in Oregon and Esther)

see page for more interesting stuff; I had one other hit that looked promising from google that I couldn't
get searched because everytime I tried to search it the search denied that any of the info I was searching
for was on that page, (I hate PDF's) and I thought it had to be lying, but every method I could think of
to check in Word froze my puter, finally this morning I figured a way and sue enough, no Lottie, no Olof,
no Peterson, so why did google give me that page???

Anyway I have Heritage quest this am and tried again for Olof, I hate to say it but I suspect he fell
through the cracks in 1900, or he isn't in Oregon or Ca; searched Olaf, Olof, Petersen son, tterson
ttersen derson dersen and no luck, did find one guy who is in Census twice in Crescent City though which
means whole neighborhood probably in twice.

Hi again Pat in Tuscon,
My Grandfather Married Lottie Hall born April1868 a Pomo Indian from Mendocino, Ca. Died 1906 in the San
Fran. Earthquake of 1906 while walking down a flight of marble stairs at her home in San Francisco when a
marble column fell on her crushing her and an unborn baby.
In a Letter between relative it talks of Olof visit to Denmark where he said: He was married three times,
had survived all three wives, had had 21 children totally, had lost one wife and seven children at the
earthquake in San Francisco, they were suppressed between their beds
Lottie Hall had a sister Nettie Hall born Feb.1872 both girls in Cal. Father from Va. Mother N.Y.
But I amafraid thats all I have.
Good Luck I hope you will help me
Erick

This is Pat in Tucson (the one who didn't know where North Bend is).

Here is the 1910 census:

1910 > CALIFORNIA > FRESNO > 10-TWP
Series: T624 Roll: 76 Page: 137
Surname GivenName Age Sex Race Birthplace State County Location Year
PETERSEN OLIF 55 M W DENM CA FRESNO 10-TWP 1910
Petersen, Olif. Companion m w 55 Wd DenDanish DenDanish DenDenish imm 1873, Naturalized, speaks English,
Felling timber.

It appears that "companion" means that the loggers shared a house and one was designated as "head of
household." It was probably pretty arbitrary.

You see that he is widowed and, according to this, at least, immigrated in 1873.

I have tried to find Lottie and young Olaf to no avail.

And, can't find any of them on the 1900, 1910, 1920, and 1930 census. I realize it must be my spelling, or
poor, tired, brain, but maybe you can give us some other information.

(1) Where was Lottie born? Do you know anything about her family? Could she have another name besides
"Lottie"?

(2) Do you know anything about her parents? If she was dead by 1910, perhaps the children were being
raised by a sibling, or her parents.

Pat (in Tucson)

I have access to 1900 Census from Genealogy.com. There is an Olaf Peterson in the 5th Precinct, Clatsop
County, Oregon from Denmark born in 1863 and immigrated in 1877 at age 23.
He is with his wife and two daughters.

Hi again, Just wanted to be sure you got an answer.
Olof Peterson born 1855 Denmark was probably naturalized in Coos bay or big Bend, Oregon, do you know
anyone with an indexed 1900 Oregon Census.

Hi Erick,
I looked in Ancestry. They must not be finished with their enumeration of
the 1900 census yet. I looked for Olof and Olaf, Peterson and Petersen. I
could find no one born near 1885 from Denmark. I decided to look in Oregon
when I found there was no Oregon or Washington (yet). Do you know where he
was in 1900?

Here's what I found for immigration. All are from Ancestry.com
