Name changes are real and in my family's case dramatic.
The earliest record (a 3rd century tombstone in the Mosell valley) read
Caseberiensus (a plural form). The earliest known German (16th century) was
Kasebier, and over time the following spellings have derived: Casebeer (the
most common in English) Casebier, Casbeer, Kazebeer,
Casebere, Kasbeer, Caseberry, Causler, Kausler, Kaesebeer and some folk
during the period of time (World War I) dropped the suffix and simply went
by Case. Ah, name changes...Bob Casebeer
