I still have my ration book, I was 10 when the war started.  Each 
member of the family was issued a book for food.  I recall my dad 
getting a set of tires and some extra gas stamps after lots of trying 
as we were moving to southern California for work.  It's a good thing 
the speed limit was 35 MPH, as the tires were synthetic rubber and 
weren't very good.
