Sue Steward, do you find Jason S. CLARK, and/or Jared Michael whose wagon the two families travelled together from
IN to OR in 1847 ? Jared Michael m. Mary KELSO Dec. 23, 1815 in PA (she a dau of Kelso & Laird). They were from Dacatur Co., IND, moved to White County. Jared Michael est. Donation Land Claim DLC #1753 about 3.5 mi. S of Brownsville, OR. This land can be seen on maps angled 30 deg.since there had been compass error reading. (declination error ). The wagon was quite large, with Captains William Vaughn and his son Alex Vaughn - they took the northern route
via Snake River over Blue Mtns, down the Columbia River to The Dalles, and S to the Barlow Toll Road, where the train registered , then down to OR City & winter camp near presen-day Salem.
Jason S. Clark & hwf Anna Michael CLARK had DLC #500 near Harrisburg in Linn Co.
Jason Clark was part owner of Harrisburg Sawmill which he helped build.
Clarks sold out and went to Winchester, Douglas Co., OR (near Umpqua Academy at Wilbur, OR) where he started and was opr. of a ferry across the Umpqua River. Said Jason Clark had a ferry service at Lyle, WA on the Columbia River, W of The Dalles, OR after they moved to
WA Territory in the l865 + years.
