Okay;

My apologies, Gary et al, I was basing my directions on the lat and long
that Sue gave from the quotation, now here is where it gets weird, that is
in Section 12, I am haveing a hard time coming up with township and range,
as USGS doesn't make those easy online, but now that I notice where it is in
relation to Sherwood, which is not where I thought it was. Unfortunately the
USGS online page changes the image radically between certain resolutions and
I could never figure out where I was in relation to Sherwood because by the
time I zoommed out to find it, I had no idea where on the screen the
cemetery at; Lat: 45D 24' 35" N, Lon: 122D 59' 27" W Lat was in relation to
it, with a lot of switching between two copies which is also hard to do as
when you open a copy from their web site, you can open all the copies of
your net brower you want after that and find another location, but the web
page will post the result to the first copy of their map you have opened up.
I discovered I could open multiple copies by clicking on the link in my
email.

Okay, Bill, NOW I am more confused than ever, according to what I can figure
from USGS, section three is just south of Sherwood, but I must have the
wrong Sherwood according to your statement that it is on the Clackamas
county border because USGS has that border 5 or 6 miles east, right close to
the Willamette Meridian. USGS has a link to a Pleasant View cemetery at the
right number of miles south of Sherwood (I think,) but it is about twenty
miles east there of??? Again the way USGS changes it's image so radically
with changes in Scale had me fooled, for the longest time I was confusing
Damascus, which is very close to the Pleasant View I just mentioned with
Dammasch Hospital when I was jumping around trying to pin this cemetery
down.

Okay I gave up on USGS and downloaded a program that lets me download as
much territory as I want, Unfortunately it doesn't have Township and Range
info on it, but for free I am not complaining. now if we go four miles South
from Sherwood, we do not come to section three, but we do come to a Pleasant
Hill Cemetery in section 9, which is off of Tooze Road, and I finally
figured out the county line thing, man they really weirded out when they
stuck that area in Clackamas county, it is a tongue of land about five miles
wide sticking six mile west between Washington and Yamhill and Marion
counties???

Still I am confused, is the cemetery I mention off of Tooze road what Gary
is looking for or what? If that is the right one, it is about four miles
south of the Sherwood that I finally figured out really is the right one, so
I assume it is the right place? Gary if you'd like I can email you an image
and map of the cemetery, if you don't have a problem with downloads.
Otherwise I can take another stab at trying to give you driving directions,
USA Photo Maps make it a lot easier to follow, should have done it a long
time ago.

That offer is extended to others, if you have an obscure cemetery, I can
(probably) send you a map of the location and a fairly decent aerial photo,
the one off Tooze road looks like I can almost see the gravestones. It looks
like the images are about 100 KB and larger maps are only 250 KB or so, most
folks shouldn't have a problem downloading that small a file.

Gary, et al --

There seems to be some problems identifying this cemetery and it's correct
location, so if you will bear with me for a bit, I'll try to explain:

According to the info Sue posted;

http://terraserver-usa.com/image.aspx?T=2&S=11&Z=10&X=1251&Y=12570&W=1

will take you to a USGS link for a topo map of the Cemetery you are looking
for, but USGS calls it Pleasant Hill? I note that the name was "changed" to
Pleasant View to avoid duplication of names, but there are two by that name
in Oregon also, the other being in Umatilla county. ...

Bill writes:

Yes, the TerraServer shows a Pleasant Hill cemetery on SW Campbell Road
between Holly Hill Rd and SW McNay Rd -- this is about 6-8 miles northwest
of Sherwood and is in Washington County. Also, it is the wrong cemetery.

The Interment.net site shows a burial for U G Shaver in the listed cemetery,
but this is where the confusion starts.

Now, for the geography lesson. The City of Sherwood, which is in Washington
County, has a common boundary on part of its southern edge with Clackamas
County. The basis for the Interment.net information is Lucille Geigle's
"Walking Through The Cemeteries" volume II, Winter 1993. Ms Geigle's work is
for Clackamas County cemeteries, and as she states, "It [Pleasant View
Cemetery] is about 4 miles south of Sherwood in the Pleasant Hill district"
which is in Clackamas County.

The cemetery where U G Shaver is buried is on SW Westfall Rd west of Baker
Road, near the intersection of Westfall and SW 145th Ave. Westfall also has
two terminal intersections with SW Tooze Rd going to Wilsonville, which is
probably the easiest way to get there if you are unfamiliar with the area.

Apparently there are Pleasant Hill Cemeteries in Polk, Umatilla, and
Washington Counties, as well as two Pleasant View cemeteries in Clackamas
County and others elsewhere I am sure. What about that pioneer cemetery in
Pleasant Hill, east of Eugene? Confusion reigns!

My Thomas Bros map book does not show the cemetery on Campbell Rd -- maybe
somebody closer could go by and see what is there?
