Since you live in Newberg you might go to Salem  to the State Library (not 
the Archives). They have filmed all of the old  directories for, i believe, the 
entire State.
 
i went there three times and looked at the actual  books. The fourth time 
they had been filmed and it was a whole lot easier than  handling the books.

Aside  from traveling to the Oregon Historical society in Portland, is there
any  other way to access to older Portland city directories?  I  am
