If I remember right the Oregon Historical Society has quite a photo collection of the Vanport Flood also the library and I believe there is also a book out on it.

Bob, how long were you stationed there? About 1944-46 I worked in the bean
fields where the airport is now. The P-38's, when taking off would be so
  low
we could see the faces of the pilots. They waved at us girls working in the
beans and of course we waved back.

Carroll: I was there when the VanPort Flood happened! I was in the oregon
  Air national Guard.

If anyone is interested I can scan and send some
Vanport photos - my dad took some snapshots (both he
and my mother lived at vanport but didn't know each
other at the time). I have some of his snapshots taken
from up on the dike and lower/water level.

If anyone is interested I have the map of Vanport with all the streets laid
out as well as the nursery, fire hall, and other items in the city. I also
have several newspaper articles. I visited Terri the manager what is now
Delta Park Raceway. She was featured in several papers about three years
ago as she has been recovering items from the flood that have worked their
way up through the mud. It was interesting to see the bottles, rings,
vases, lipstick containers, a jar of jam (still sealed with wax) and various
other items. I believe several of the original items that she found were
cast in some way and used in the light rail stations. Although my parents
did not live there was born in Vanport in 1948 and have only found one other
person that was also born there, however she was born in 1946.

I lived in the Walnut Grove area northeast of Vancouver, My parents bought
one of the Vanport homes after the flood and tore it down, used the lumber
to build a home next to ours for my grandmother and Chicken coops, I
remember them taking me over a few times while they tore the home down.

Notice how carefully everyone made sure their subject line reflected the
substance of what they posted, also anyone who complains about how dead this
list is has just volunteered to edit my compiled postings for the March 2005
to date, it is only 3194 pages, I am sure with editing it can be whittled
down to a mere 2500 or so.
