Subject: [or-roots] Gig Harbor - Dry country
Sherry;
I know about dry country, I spent 3 years in Peace Corps in Iran,
fortunately I spent most of my time in what little forest they have, but all
too much time in the areas where forest counts as a tree every twenty miles.
At Gig Harbor you might learn something by contacting these folks;
Artondale Cemetery
5300 block of Hunt Street
Gig Harbor, WA.
Contact Fred Babbit (253) 858-2146.
Location of records:
Heaven of Rest Cemetery, Box 156, Gig Harbor, WA 98335
(253) 858-2146 or
Fred Babbit, 4219 Harborview Drive, Gig Harbor.
This cemetery was founded March 15, 1895 on homesteaded land donated
by Miles B. and Maritta M. Hunt.

USGS doesn't show any unlisted cemeteries, do you know the approximate
location?
Other than that, I can't help you, Jane comes up null in google, John Nelson
gets a lot of hits, unfortunatley neithr of them is your guy.
Les C
Les,
After I came home to the Denver area, the field behind my house looked
extremely dry! I will always remember the lush green evergreen trees. I
even took pictures along the road to show my husband how thick the forest
are. My grandparents came from Nova Scotia to Oregon and the winters in
Oregon are a breeze compared to Nova Scotia so they probably thought they
had found God's Country. In fact, I heard Oregonee folks referring to their
country as God's Country!
I am still trying to find John Nelson Wood's (b.1839 d. 1908) death cert.
Also, Jane Hunter Campbell Wood (b. 1840) died in Gig Harbor, Wash. don't
know when and I can't find where she is buried, she is his wife and she
lived after 1925 because my grandmother mentions her in a 1925 letter. Jane
is surposed to be buried in the Will Chilvers graveyard. Well, that was a
family plot in Gig Harbor and I can't find anything on that.
thanks, Sherry
