Thank you for posting that wonderful letter, it is fascinating to hear a
description of such thoroughness of the country I grew up in and still live
in before it was changed so much by settlers. I see even then dissing
California was an Oregonian pass time.

truly one of the sickliest, poorest in soil, and hottest countries your
unworthy writer ever visited. I hope this will be warning enough to my
friends about California.
