Happy Turkey day folks, hope all is well with listers, see you're all too
busy with live family to chase the dead ones.
First item on agenda is an apology to many of you and especially Lee
Gentamannn and Linda Van Orden who both sent me stuff on my cousin Dix's
family which I never thanked them for because it got lost on my computer.
Other people had reponded to or asked for further info on various items and
all of this stuff ended up in my wife's boot on my computer and I was
unaware that she was still snagging my email until I happened to be watching
her last night and discovered she hada copy of Outlook open. Aside from a
belated thanks to Linda and Lee for what they sent me, I will try to get
back to a coouple of other emails that really need attention.
At least now I know why some of our conversations have been so disjointed.
It's bad enough that I often see three responses to a post before I see the
post, but trying to make sense of a thread when every third post is gone is
real tough.
Again my apologies to anyone who thought I was being a jerk by not
responding (we know I can be one otherwise, but that's another story) it was
not intentional, though we all know I can forget things from the top to the
bottom of a sentence and my apologies for anyone who got shorted that way
too.
Woops, almost posted this without posting the important part. Just spent
about two hours videotaping reminiscenses by my father's surviving sibling,
my Aunt Nell who some of you have heard about before. She had a number of
interesting stories about her childhood in Cottage Grove, anyone who was
related to the Dugan Family, the Mosby's or the Doctors Schlef (sp?) from
early years of the previous Century might find some of the anecdotes
interesting.
But the main thing that this is all about is a passing comment she made when
talking about the great coast expedition of 1923 was that when they tried to
find gas in Alsea on Sunday the gas stations (there were two) were closed
due to the excitment or consternation over some woman being killed in a
runaway horse and buggy incident. My curiosity is whether I can find out who
and when, as niether my Father nor Aunt Nell could remember the exact date
of the trip when they wrote thier memoirs 70 some years later.
It is interesting to read their two versions of the same trip. In searching
out this information (Auntie couldn't remember for sure, today, what year it
was) I read some of my Fathers other reminisces for the first time. Amazing
stuff, I knew the man for almost fifty years and he did like to talk (never
woulda guessed that huh?) and yet page after page I find things I never
knew!
I had one other item which I have forgotten so with another happy Turkey day
will sign off.
