Dear Lillian
It is so considerate and thoughtful for you to think
of these things now! Not at all morbid - realistic.
Allow me to suggest to consider nieces and nephews
too.
For some reason, not all family has any interest in
'old stuff'. I was bequeathed by my Great 2nd Aunt
(my father's mother's 1/2 sister)the compote dish she
got from her mother/my GG-mother for her wedding, and
all of her photo albums.
We had gone to visit her and she asked me if I'd like
them. I remember her sitting next to me on the couch
and I said, oh but I couldn't! these should go to (her
Grandhildren) she said she'd offered but they didn't
want them. I couldn't believe it!
It is a photo history of her father (no blood relation
to me) and his work on early railroad in Oregon
(1915-1927). To me it is a priceless treasure of
history and family lore. Still agog any relative could
turn it down given the opportunity.
Be sure to share your memories and stories behind the
things as you pass them along too (maybe jot them down
to go along with the items?) - it helps keep the
details of the items relationship to the family.
As the inheriter of many wonderful but unidentifiable
photos, please put the names of everybody (not just
"Auntie Pete" include Mildred E (Hanson) Wright (her
full name) lightly in pencil on the back too.
Bless you for thinking of the future generations
seeking to connect to you, and for them to have the
opportunity to know and remember you more fully.
