Before the 40's they use to have vaudeville shows in some of the big theatres in downtown. I remember Horace Height (?) as one before he became famous. Eddie Peabody also played there.

On Broadway there was also the Orpheum, (spelling is wrong I think) the Fox and the Music Box.

My older sister Lois grew up in Portland in the late 40 and early 50's. She married in 1954, moved away but moved back in the late 60's. She seems to remember the "Roxy" theatre turned into a burlesque theater sometime in the early 50's. The only theaters she remember were the Premier theater and they were the "Broadway" and the "Paramount" in downtown Portland. Her girlfriend and she went and saw "River of No Return" with Marilyn Monroe. She also remembers the Coney Island" cafe with Johnny Ray singing on the Jude box.
