I don't think I've seen all the messages the last 2 days as my local
Internet provider is working on a problem they have with in-going &
out-going e-mails, so I may have missed some the last few days, Just got
this one..

WoW!! I was told by my aunt ann that we are related to the famous Peabodys &
one was a Banjo Player with last name of Peabody. I forgot his first name
right off, but will see if I can find in my notes or call my Aunt.. I bet
this is him, Eddie Peabody as that sounds right : ) Thank you for writing
about him..

Thanks!
Nancy

I was with my aunt and her then boy friend in the late 1930's when we
stopped
off at a fair grounds and Eddie Peabody was the featured attraction. In SF
We saw the orignial Muntiny on Bounty, and the itermission was a banjo
player. I recall him since he broke couple of strings before really getting
into his act. The scene in Mutiny I recall was the whipping scene of the
scow with the seaman tied so every man could see him. My aunt's boy
friend, at her request, tried to teach me to drive his Model A. Later in
about 1945, I finally got my hands on one. We drove it from Oakland
to Canada and back. Up in WA a Model T. passed us.

Before the 40's they use to have vaudeville shows in some of the big
theatres in downtown. I remember Horace Height (?) as one before he became
famous. Eddie Peabody also played there.

On Broadway there was also the Orpheum, (spelling is wrong I think) the Fox
and the Music Box.

My older sister Lois grew up in Portland in the late 40 and early 50's. She
married in 1954, moved away but moved back in the late 60's. She seems to
remember the "Roxy" theatre turned into a burlesque theater sometime in the
early 50's. The only theaters she remember were the Premier theater and
they were the "Broadway" and the "Paramount" in downtown Portland. Her
girlfriend and she went and saw "River of No Return" with Marilyn Monroe.
She also remembers the Coney Island" cafe with Johnny Ray singing on the
Jude box.
