[or-roots] Heritage Quest access thru Multnomah Co. Library

I access HQ from home here in Coos Bay through the Coos County Public
Library. The access was changed and I couldn't get in because of the
firewall that I have with XP. I had to contact the library to find that one
out!! I wasn't about to turn off the firewall to allow access.

Once I added the HQ link to my "approved" sites and rebooted, I was fine. I
access it from the Coos County Library link "External Resources" and just
have to enter my Library Card number and I'm in. It does "time out" if you
don't use it within a certain length of time and you have to log in again.
I have no problem getting back in without rebooting.

Trish

I believe what you are talking about Karla is access to Heritage quest from
within the Library, I have access through the coos County Library system and
AT the Library you have to have them key in the user name and password, but
for home use, all I have to do is type in my library card number.

The catch is that something internal in the Heritage Quest system
periodically throw a road block in my work, first of all if I don't access a
new page in a certain limit of time, I get asked for the "within the
library" authorization info. Once this has happened, until I reboot, even
after going back and re-entering my card number I get that message every
time I try any kind of move from page to page except clicking the link which
is a pain, as I like to use right click to "open in a new window" a lot when
chasing documents.

The point of all this is, I can only access HQ on one computer on my
Network, the other computer will only give me the "in the Library" option.
The reason I do not know, but I am sure it has to do with their security.

Here is the website address for the genealogy page for Multnomah County
Library website. You can click on the Heritage quest link. But, when you
get there and click on the Census, you have to have a user name, and a
password. I am waiting a reply to an email I wrote to the library to find
out exactly what it is. Here is the link:

Hope this is what you want to know, Dan.
