I am still not entirely happy with it, but my smart aleck son pointed out
that in the save as window on the line below where you enter what file name
you want if you don't like the default file name (I almost never do) is a
"save as type" window. If you chose save as Webpage HTML only it will save
fairly gracefully, at least so far it has always saved immediately. the
result has a lot of the miscellaneous links missing. I have had similar
results when I moved files, the image still loads and the title of the
publication is still there but a lot of stuff comes up missing.
Pat, I wasn't aware of a PDF option for downloading images, I don't really
like working with PDF files anyway, but lots of folks do. What I used to do
in previous versions is click "file" and then "save as" type in or "ctrl V"
the title I want to use and and click ok, My wife came in one might in the
middle of the night and found me essentially downloading a book from HQ in
my sleep, I was about halfway through 150 pages or so (I think it was the
Melvin from Palmer Groups) I was just conscious enough to get the page
number in a coherent fashion and move on to the next one. I sure can't do
that with IE7, for one thing about 1/2 the time when I go to hit file save I
hit the print icon instead, fortunately I am having so much trouble printing
from this computer that the only problem with that is having to cancel the
print run when the icon pops up to complain about not being able to connect
with the print spooler.
I have three Dell computers sitting here, an inspiron laptop which seems to
be a pretty good machine for what I ask from it, a Dimension 4550 i bought
used for about a grand about three years ago which seems to be pretty much
bullet proof, my son runs his RPG's and does photo stuff on it and has had
few problems, except he up graded the hard drive and it wouldn't get along
with ANY modem, but since we networked it has been pretty much trouble free,
and a year ago I bought a dimension 5150 for about a grand and have had
nothing but headaches, it categorically refuses to get along with my HP
network printer, I had a really ugly fight with Dell over the OS and "trial"
software that came loaded on it, not too big a deal if I was willing to go
to the effort to wipe the hard drive and reinstall that software I really
want, but I don't feel I should have to do that. And for some reason my
ancient copy of Autocad refuses to run on this machine at all, even though
my business partner installed it on his "almost" identical machine with no
problems. Over all I have found XP to be mostly a pain.
We manage to kludge through, but some days it really irks, especially like
last saturday when I brought home a 250 gig hard drive to drop into this
dell and discovered that unless I wanted to pay Dell 2 1/2 times as much as
that drive cost me, I wasn't going to add a drive, so I showed them, I
bought an external 500 gig drive instead.
Long story short TOO LATE IE7 works, but as usuall with Microsoft change
for the sake of change is a mistake.
