Eugene

Thank you for forwarding this. I always enjoyed Cecil, and his wit. We will miss him

But, look on the bright side. He's up there getting all the "goodies" -- those "brick walls are a'tumbling
down."

Pat (in Tucson)

Cecil will be missed. I have enjoyed reading his posts over the years. I rejoice in knowing that all his
genealogical questions are now answered and his spirit lives on with those he has left behind.

Subject: [OREGON] Obituary Notice for Cecil HOUK

For the information of List members, this is to advise that my cousin,
Cecil Charles HOUK b.July 22, 1939 in Sisters, Deschutes Co., OR died
at his home in San Diego, CA on Thursday, July 6, 2006 where his wife
Rachel found him when she returned from work that evening. Although
Rachel has a son and daughter by her earlier marriage, Cecil had no
children of his own. Cecil was proceeded in death by his only brother
Dou glas R aymond Houk 1938-1997 and by his parents, George Douglas Houk
1909-1966 and Helen Edna (Rulaford) Houk 1908-1997. Although born in
Sisters, OR Cecil lived most of his earlier years in Sweet Home, OR.

For a number of years Cecil was quite active on various Oregon Lists,
upsetting many with his independent ideas and sharp remarks, but also
generously sharing family info that had been accumulated by his mother
especially throughout her life on their early Oregon pioneer ancestors,
including Nineveh Ford 1815-1897 who made trip west with Marcus Whitman
in 1830's on one of Whitman's buying trips to MO for Whitman Missionary.
Little did Nineveh Ford know at that time that one of his descendants,
Cecil and my grandfather's sister Mary Elizabeth "Lizzy" Houk 1866-1929
would become wife of Sanford Stanley Pringle 1866-1904 whose mother
Catherine Carney (Sager) Pringle 1835-1910 was survivor of that horrible

November 1847 Whit man Ma ssacre.

Cecil has a number of websites commemorating his early pioneer
Ancestors,
one being dedicated to Capt. James Blakely 1812-1913 and his wife Sarah
(Dick) Blakely 1815-1889 who were Cecil & my gr-gr-grandparents (Cecil's

father being younger brother of my father Jacob Guy Houk). Through that
website, Cecil and I have both had the opportunity to become acquainted
with many others descended from Capt James Blakely who arrived in Linn
Co., OR Terry. in 1846 and settled in what is today Brownsville, OR. It
was Capt. Blakely who platted the town of Brownsville in 1860's and
named
it after his Uncle Hugh Leeper Brown 1810-1888 who had also brought his
family west in 1846 with Capt. Blakely as Hugh Brown's wife Clarissa
(Browning) Brown 1810-1898 was younger sister of Capt. Blakely's mother
Jincy (Browning) Blakely c1790-c1867.

To those of you who corresponded with Cecil over the years, both his wife
Rachel and I express our warm appreciation as many of you became quite
special friends with Cecil, helping him fill the void in his life after
having spent 20 years in US Navy.

Kind regards
Rachel Houk in San Diego
Don Houk in Tokyo
