Dale, good call on the marriage index, of course the Howell marriage is the
correct one, I sent a note to Ralph mentioning that there was a problem, I
suspect when he was indexing that marriage by Bride he married her off to a
witness or some such. I know how hard it is to do a data base like that
right and "airer phri" !!

I went back and hammerd at them in 1870 again with just as much luck as last
time, I started out looking for Benjamin Wells and then remembered I had
seen the Howells in the 1880 Census and had your confirmation that that was
them, then went back and went, "Gee, since this was Dale's query to begin
with, no wonder he caught that!"

I went through every Howell houshold listed in the Heritage Quest index, and
looked at every guy who is head of household in 1870 lsited as born in
Illinois and in that age group in the H's and npo sign of him, that turned
up a J. Howell about right age, but he didn't have any family with him???

There is one Howell living in Umatilla county in 1870, maybe I should have
looked longer around him, I just went a page or so each way.

Now I have someone for others to watch for for me;

According to this info they are in Oregon in 1870 ballpark, but I can't find
them;

I did find some McCulloch in Douglas county who don't show up in the index,
but John and Mary aren't there. They were near some of the Wells I looked at
before I remembered that was a wild goose chase. I was about to start this
email and it ocurred to me to see if they were in the Marriage index, sure
enough; Same page as Mary Northrup married Benjamin Wells; her maiden name
is Owens and they married 18 June 1865. One of these days I will have to see
if I can find her family.

Also Dale I may have to go to Roseburg soon, I will try to remember to get a
copy of Stanford and Adalines cert for you, if you don't have it.
