Dear Albert:

Jane Blanchard's brother had five sons, all documented seaman, and all, with some of their families
died at sea. One was the subject of a TV. program last year. (It was reported in Ripley's Beleive it
or Not in 1939). One of those captains aided in the birth of a female child. She grew up to be the
Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz. I have cousin in Me who says when he was a youngster, their
was a town drunk whose only claim to fame was that he missed that last Blanchard boat. They apparently
had no roster of those aboard, and from what I have seen, there are still Queries on the web from
families who were involved and still looking for a hint of theirs thought lost in that tragedy around the
turn of the century.

According to Pendleton, some of the Blanchards were up around the Richmond Antioch area of
California by the 1920's.

Hope you and yours have Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Gene

  Bonjour,

I'm sure you will be pleased with the BLANCHARD List.they have done lots with DNA in verifying the various branches. You could first send out a query and then check the list archives.

Do you tie into the Blanchards who were on the Trail in 1851 and before?

  Regards, &c.,

  Albert

  Dear Albert:

My gr gr gr. grandfather, Nathaniel B. Barnes, m. Jane Blanchard. His older brother John m. Mary "Polly"

Blanchard her older sister. Pendelton in his dissertation missed the later, and made little of the former.

Nathaniel settled in Kingfield about 1813, and later in the area of Springfield about 1830. He and his

wife are both buried in Lee, Maine. I have not been on the Blanchard List but will join in.

    Bonjour,

My wife's BLANCHARDS are from Joseph who died in Boston in 1637. He might've been a Huguenot who escaped from France to England. Thanks for the inquiry. Can I assume you belong to the BLANCHARD Rootsweb list ?
