What are the best sources of information on learning how to read old hand writing?  There are times that one cannot tell the difference between letters.  For example an 'L' or a 'S'.  Numbers are more than a challenge at times also.

I tried finding something on-line, but gave up.

Any and all suggestons are welcome to help me solve this dilema.

The time line would be from 1600's to 1900's.  I imagine that during those 300 years there would be several changes to the changes!
