I don't know about the small and also a printer, but because the things you
want to scan need to stay flat, and can't be taken apart, probably, I'd vote
for your camera.
I have had considerable success with using the camera on photo albums,
courthouse records, and Bibles. The key is to practice at home to see how to
get the close up shots and make sure they are each clear. I check every shot
as I take it also, having brought home sets with the first ones clear as a
bell, and later ones (got tired?) fuzzy.
I have a Quadra-pod copy stand that is just the best. It has four legs, so
you can set it up once at the height you want, and move the docs in and out.
It costs a bit, but not any more than a scanner. Here's a website:

(usual blah, blah - I'm not related, don't work for the company)
Hope this helps.

Subject: [or-roots] Need Scanner/printer ideas
Planning a genealogy research trip --
I now have a laptop computer.
And a digital camera.
What I'd like to find is a small, light-weight flatbed scanner to scan
those family scrapbooks, Bibles, etc. that can't be taken out of the house.
And, it would be ideal if it were also a printer.
Is there such a thing?
