Here is another old email from Violet Moore Guy which has a couple of
different ways of spelling Llewellen.

Jean Leeper & Kathleen Rogalla:

I have a copy of the paperback book:

"Covered Wagon Women -Dairies & Letters from theWestern Trails,
1840-1849".
Edited and compiled by Kenneth L. Homes, with Introduction by Anne
Butler.
I was interested in the "Letters from a Quaker Woman" by Rachel Fisher
(maiden name was Joy). Rachel suffered loss of many children as well as
her first husband -- her second husband was William A. Mills, s/o Isaac
& Rachel Mills, who brought their family to Oregon in 1843 (see ORGenWeb
pages) and settled in the Tualatin District named for the Taulitin
River, which flows into the Willamette (in present day Washington
County.). William A.'s sister, Rachel Emily Mills md Enos Mendenhall in
Oregon. Issac Mills wife, Rachel, is a descendent of John Beals, III (my
ancestor). Rachel Fisher and first husband, John, were on the Wagon
Train led by Henderson Luelling, who became a nurseryman in Oregon. John
Lewelling was Henderson's brother, who stayed at home in Salem, Iowa;
and he & brother, Seth, would later travel to Oregon to join the nursery
business -- Seth was to become responsible for the development of the
Bing and Black Republican cherries. (Information on the Luelling
brothers is in footnotes as well as some of the Mills and Mendenhall
information.) There is an Epilouge written by Alfred Luelling, oldest
son of Henderson & Elizabeth Luelling. (I was given informational help
in the purchasing of this book by Pat Duston, Malolla, OR, my "Coffin
Cousin", who is related to some of the people mentioned in this book.)

I purchased this book for for my life long interest in the Trails of
Oregon, expecially of the Pioneers on the Oregon Trail. I am an
Oregonian by birth and I am the G-Granddaughter of Elvira (Mendenhall)
Moore, widow of Rev.
Hiram C. Moore, b. Preble Co. OH>IN>IA. His widow, Elvira, migrated to
Oregon with 3 of 5 sons, William Himielus, Harrison Phillip and Embree
to join their brother, James Whitcomb Moore, b. IN>IA>OR, already in
Wasco County, Oregon. James, wife Orrie Emily (Greene) b. CT>IA>OR,
along with infant son, Orrin Whitney (my father) b. IA>OR and the Polk
Butler Family took the "RR train" from Iowa to California and then
wagons up into the the Willamette Valley, stopping first in Sweet Home,
OR (near Eugene) to visit uncles of Polk Butler. Theses Butler men had
come from Indiana & Illinois on various wagon trains, which are featured
on ORGenWeb (and sometimes can be found in ORLinn, a GenWeb Project).
Polk Butler's wife is Delphine (Dell) McCoys b IN>IL>OR, a niece of
Elvira, so she was a Mendenhall/Coffin first cousin of my grandfather,
James W. Moore. There is a "Discovery Center for the Oregon Trail"
located in The Dalles, Wasco County, Oregon, with others located at
Oregon City (south of Portland) and at Baker (Eastern Oregon near the
Idaho border).

If either of you ladies, Jean and/or Kathleen, want a photocopy of the
"Letters from A Quaker Woman" by Rachel Fisher, I shall photocopy and
mail
to you. Therefore, Jean I will need your snail-mail address - I
already
have Kathleen's address. I was able to buy these books at the Klindt
Bookstore, The Dalles, OR. In about 2001/2002 Timeline, I posted some of
this information on Q-R.
