Thanks for the tips! I'd forgotten about the 'find on page'  thing because I've collapsed the menu bars for maximum screen viewing. It didn't work on books in Heritage Quest  (too bad). Also tried searching with state +genealogy + surname and it does yield better results and less garbage but nothing useable today (sigh).

When I find a really good site I right click, hold and drag the icon in the address bar and drop a shortcut onto my desktop to get back to the place I left off at immediately. Much easier than using favorites or the search history log or trying to remember how I got there in the first place.

BYU-Idaho has some nice stuff on Western States and I've been trying the 'College with Online Genealogy' approach out in other states to locate regional depositories. Most of them are geared for students and faculty.
