[or-roots] Goldson Cemetery Lane county Oregon

I'm a fairly new goecacher but I have found that the coordinates that are given for a cache usually will get me within about 6-8 feet of the cache. Occasionally I have gotten within a couple of feet but that is rare. I 'believe' it is because different GPS units have varying degrees of accuracy and that it is also impacted by the amount of foliage that you might be standing under. Experts in the field might be able to tell you of other factors that impact the accuracy but the idea of being a few miles off sounds to me like someone typed (transposed) the numbers wrong when the recorded the coordinates.

I don't have any specific information about the Goldson cemetery, but I have found that when I look at the longitude and latitude coordinates from the State lists, they are generally up to 6 miles to the east of where the actual location is. I suspect this is because the coordinates are not precise enough to show the exact location. So my tip would be to look to the west of the coordinates.

I am curious if this group knows of any current cemetery listings which use GPS coordinates to locate individual graves, or family plots within a cemetery. I am looking into GPS units that will give me this ability to list the coordinates. I'd also be curious what people who have done geocaching can tell me about this idea, and what special considerations I could be taking into account if I embark on this type of a project. For the rest of the group, what would you need to know to be able to use this information if it was on a website for a cemetery, and would you still want a map of the cemetery too?

I appreciate any and all feedback!

  Robyn
