Sarah Ellen (Stevens) McCubbins is my gggGrandmother who was married to Samuel McCubbins. James was his father & China unknown his mother.
I don't know who David Stevens is, he may not be of my Stevens family (unsure)? I couldn't find anything in Lee Cemetery. *I was born in 1949 in Salem close to the Lee Cem.
Thanks, Nancy

I don't Know if this helps but I have a Sarah E. Stevens. It would have been Ruth McCubbins husbands aunt.
Genealogical Material in Oregon Provisional Land Claims give this Abstracted From Applications, Vols. I-VIII
1845-1849
Leabo, Isaac, Chapoeg Co.,640a: Crosses "Abiqah"Creek , Occupany, 7 Jan 1848 Abasndon by personal
request of claimant in favor of Joseph Edwards, 12 May 1848. V7, p49.
It list a Stevens as follows
Stevens, David , Lewis Co. 640a. Located at head of Bakers Bay at south of Wallach Creek; James Johnson on W. Oddupancy 11 May, 1848 V8 p 16.
Leabo, Isaac, Champoeg nCo. 640a. On Pudding River, Occupancy 4 Oct 1848. Abandoned by personal requwst of claimant, 1 May 1849 V8 p 123
You know the more I think about the relationships, Did you try the Lee Cemetery?

Hi Pat -
I looked over what you sent & wow, my gggGrandfather Hanson Stevens lived right next door to David Newsome in which I didn't realize he was that close. My gggGrandfather James McCubbins lived a few house away from Newsome & Stevens. That's how my ggGrandparents Samuel McCubbins & Sarah E Stevens met & married, (neighbors). They both came in Oct. 1852. Thank you for sending the location. * I was just doing some research today looking for cemeteries in that area, I know James's grave is probably lost, but need to keep searching. I have searched everywhere for many years with no luck.

If it is of any help, Section 20 had the DLCs of (west side of the Pudding river) David Newsome, John Newsome, (east side of the east fork of the Pudding River) a bit of J J Tucker, John Brooks, some of Isaac Wright.
On present day maps, this is the area south of Nusom Road, between basically, Howell Prairie Road on the west to about Trovard Road on the east. There is a copse of trees, with a possible cemetery, with what looks like an irrigation ditch, just west of Scism Road, south of Nusom, and east of Howell Prairie.
Its at what I think is the location of David Newsomes original house. Which would make sense. Just south of there is where John Newsome was, and again, a couple of possibilities for a cemetery.
You can look on Google Maps, putting in < howell prairie road and Nusom Rd NE, marion county, Oregon > and checking the sat. map.
Its a shame, I drove by that place twice in June, never saw a cemetery but then, I was watching the road <G>

According to Salem Online History, the Capital Journal joined with the Oregon Statesman to become the Statesman Journal Newspaper.
I would suggest both of these newspapers are in the Knight Library at U of Oregon, and since you have a date, shouldnt be too hard for someone to find.
It is not in GenealogyBank.com.

Does anyone know where I could read about the Newson Campground article in this Capital Journal below & find out who is buried there? Also does anyone have a name, or list of names for who is buried at the Olinger DLC Cem. too? I am still searching for my gggGrandfather James McCubbins's grave died Sept. 6 1877, Marion Co., OR..
Thanks, Nancy
